Day 206

August 3, 2009.

Situation resolved. Or at least, on its way, with a place to live in the fall and very kind, earnest people to live with.

Day 168

June 26, 2009.

This is the lightbulb my old housemate Jimmy rescued from the socket. It had melted so much we couldn't unscrew it. Hence the burned, darkened portions. It doesn't work anymore... but it makes for an interesting artistic escapade.

Day 167

June 25, 2009.

Shadow reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock film I watched with my friend Toral tonight. I screamed my head off. You can watch it here and scream too. Then we'll compare notes.

Day 165

June 23, 2009.

I borrowed a book on fashion designers (Fashion Now 2)from my friend Elizabeth and got inspired. I think style is more about the personality and implicit beliefs than anything else; in other words, attitude and confidence. So with my tripod, geisha bob and PJs, here's my fashion statement for the day: live creatively! And funnily. We'll probably enjoy things more that way.

Day 163

June 21, 2009.

Father's Day. I trekked out to Castro Valley with my housemate, Alice, to celebrate with her family. Food ruled the day, from pad thai to fresh fruit to ice cream. Satisfied and full I headed back to Cal to prepare, mentally, for work the next day.

Day 160

June 19, 2009.

DAY 160! Aiyah! I remember a few months ago I was excited to get to Day 60, let alone Day 10.

Today I took off work again, per doctor's orders, and relaxed. My friend Cecilia (above) brought over some soup and we went off on a nature walk. Feeling inspired by a book I was reading (The Stories of Eva Luna, by Isabela Allende) I picked up some Eucalyptus leaves and branches and together we created the 'forest' pattern on my living room wall. It's free, it flows; it suggests a kind of wilderness and wildness. I like. I hope to integrate more creativity into my life and live creatively. No boring numbness for me. Here goes... two-hundred and five days left!

Day 155

June 13, 2009.

Sleepless, disturbed after watching Gran Torino with friends until 1:30 a.m., I take photos to express some unspoken (unspeakable?) emotions and thoughts.

Day 150

June 8, 2009.

An eclectic mix of photographs today, just like the eclectic mix of events that took place. From writing grants to finding new ones, helping an 85 year old Chinese man find his way to foot surgery and eating at a Vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown, the day flew by. I guess I can kiss boredom goodbye and say hello to business.

Day 136

May 25, 2009.

Back home in B-town. The first photo shows my taekwon-do coach, pointing at me, threateningly, and a former competition team teammate. The next is an awesome Mexican figurine set in Boca Grande, of two Red Sox players yelling at each other. Then comes the short-cut I take home from the T-stop, and finally a picture of the stick / trellis set-up my mom created for her impromptu roof-top garden, with my shadow as a matter of course.

I go 'home' tomorrow to my other B-town, and as always feel that pain in my chest. Leaving will always be difficult. We're going to run to the beach tomorrow (despite the 60 degree weather) for a short jaunt before we hit the airport. Onward, ho!

Day 129

May 18, 2009.

My baby cousin, Ava Grace, was born this morning at 6 a.m. I'll be going to upstate NY to see her next weekend.

Waiting for friends to come has its perks. One of them is that I get to experiment with my camera. Blankly staring at the glass storefront of a restaurant, I noticed the reflection of its menu letters on the blinds, and that of people walking past me, receding further and further into the distance. What a great phenomenon to capture. Two different photos, to two very different effects.

Below is the main street of Berkeley on a foggy day. Given that I still have one final left to hand in (for tomorrow), the weather was fitting for my mood.

Day 124

May 13, 2009.

I wonder if the Mona Lisa was birthed by procrastination also.

With a blank screen and two pages left to churn out, I resolved to fill not the page but the wall. Here's my resulting masterpiece. (I also finished the paper two hours later.)

Here are some more views:
Exhibit A, the blasted red book I'm writing on, The Age of American Unreason by Susan Jacoby.
Exhibit B, the blank computer screen resting on my desk
Exhibit C, the beautiful work of art that was much more enjoyable to craft than my essay.

One more week of "Finals Week." Expect many more art projects to come.
